At the France–Germany border, the cheaper side is not always obvious. Sometimes France wins, sometimes Germany. Motorway prices, supermarket stations, time of day and low-emission rules can all change the answer.
The useful question is not simply where petrol is cheaper. It is where the better fuel stop sits on your actual route.
Why the border is complicated
German prices can change several times per day. French prices vary strongly by station type: motorway, supermarket, city or independent. A French supermarket station may beat Germany, while a German independent station may beat a French motorway station.
